Please support of this excellent cause that fills a severe gap in our community, by providing assistance to deserving individuals and families who need a hand up in order to move on to a better and safer life. On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. That’s more than 10 million women and men each year, according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. This statistic is further compounded by those who are psychologically and economically abused, and those who are stalked, and sexually assaulted. Domestic violence and abuse affects all levels of society, and the chances are, someone you know is being abused right now.
Many of the survivors we assist have been through shelters and programs, and have a lot of help offered to them IF they can come up with the money for the security deposit to rent an apartment or house. Unfortunately for many this sum of money is impossible to come by, and they then become ineligible for all the other programs that would have helped change their life. This is one area where we at Unabuseable can help, and we are the only program in the state of Colorado these victims can turn to for assistance in securing a home. Our funds are paid to the landlord and in the event that the lease ends, any remaining funds are returned to us to serve another deserving survivor. Each dollar we raise is well spent, and stretched as far as we can make it go!
Another niche we fill is when we are contacted by the victim advocates of various law enforcement agencies for immediate relocation assistance. An abuse victim is often removed from their support network, as their abuser promises a “fresh start” somewhere else, leaving them with no friends or family nearby to call on for help. In life-threatening situations, victims and children need to return to their support networks immediately, and simply do not have time to wait for victim assistance agencies to cut a check in 4-6 weeks – they need to get to safety right now! We have the capability to get a hotel room or purchase bus tickets in a matter of minutes and hours, not days or weeks, to ensure that they can get away from their tormentor and return safely to the arms of their family.
